Swim-sters® Keep Water Clean and Safe For Swimmers
Wednesday November 15, 2006 - GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Swim-sters® swim diapers are undergarments that significantly reduce the chances of deadly bacteria being released into the water by children who wear the products. Extensive research on the diapers was conducted by Dr. Steven Poet of the University of Georgia, and he concluded, "If worn correctly, the Swim-sters undergarments make participating in water activities much safer for children."
Swim-sters are designed to replace disposable and cloth diapers with a pant specifically designed for use during water activities. Swim-sters will not absorb water, and the elastic waist and leg openings contain solid waste. The diapers are available in durable reusable and lightweight disposable models.
Deadly incidents involving the release of dangerous bacteria into the water at public swimming facilities unfortunately occur each summer. Research shows that by properly using Swim-sters undergarments, bacteria released from the swimsuit of a water-immersed child are considerably reduced, even with watery diarrhea. By wearing reusable Swim-sters undergarments, children are 98 percent less likely to release bacteria from waste into the water. The disposable undergarments reduce the amount of bacteria up to 93 percent.
"Our research showed that the proprietary Bacstop® feature, found in both undergarments, was effective in preventing bacteria from being released from children's swimsuits," said Dr. Poet.
The Swim-sters undergarments work best when worn underneath children's regular swimsuits, and are not designed to go over disposable diapers. The reusable Swim-sters are made from a nylon/Lycra blend with a specially laminated liner. These tightly woven, breathable fabrics limit the amount of bacteria and waste that can pass through during water activities. The disposable version of the Swim-sters undergarments can be used all day during water activities or until it becomes soiled, and is made of a specially designed durable fabric. The fabric is breathable but not micro porous, and allows waste and harmful bacteria to be blocked while letting air reach delicate skin.
